Get more info on the Smartcar www.myride.com In recent Insurance Institute for Highway Safety tests, the 2008 Smart Fortwo, the smallest car for sale in the US market, earned the top rating of good for front and side crash protection. Its seat/head restraints earned the second highest rating of acceptable for protection against whiplash in rear impacts. Smart Fortwo is classified a microcar, meaning it’s smaller even than minicars. Weighing about 1800 pounds, the Smart is more than 3 feet shorter and almost 700 pounds lighter than a Mini Cooper.

@asiandrifter1 very useful in big cities, only about 13,000 USD, so not useless at all.
July 7th, 2010 at 7:17 am
they are too small/too expensive/just usless..
July 7th, 2010 at 7:17 am
@zrvpvo8789 If people drive at such high speeds and crash then it’s their fault, not the cars. The drivers should take care to drive carefully.
I’ve been to rugged areas on a ‘normal’ car,and I didn’t like it and the car didn’t either so in that case jeep would be a good choice.it’s meant for that terrain.and if anyone has any problem with jeeps they can have reange rovers or whatever but these jombos come with their own problems. It’s up to the people to buy whatever they like.

@twentyflights ‘attempt’ is been around for decade yet it never developed into the major line in automotive industry (like SUV) – keep dreaming.
But it wasn’t really about Smart. It’s was about you devaluing things you cannot comprehend by number of reasons while feeling yourself as a guide of lifestyle. No doubts if you could afford $120K Benz as your daily transportation you wouldn’t be so opinionated about single person going to work in SUV.
July 7th, 2010 at 7:17 am
@zrvpvo8789 your “evidence” (anecdotal and rhetorical figures) means little to me…that aside, speculation is worth less than the value of ideas and execution, and Smart was bold enough to put a silly little car on the road. your misinterpreting my small fragment of support of an admirable attempt, successful or not, as some sort of dreaming is laughable. even if it was, reality is a farce at any rate: some dreams and “strange” ideas have done more for reality than even the starkly practical.

Are you drunk?! I’m surprised the driver would even be able to survive!
July 7th, 2010 at 7:17 am
i wanna see that toy crash a TRUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!
July 7th, 2010 at 7:17 am
@twentyflights
No doubts, rising gas prices will change US auto culture but Smart will never be the guideline. People will not change their lifestyle over few pennies saved on gas. The same company that makes Smart still sells (and will) – by far larger, less fuel efficient and by far more expensive cars in the rate of 1000 to 1 Smart including 4 different SUV’s.
This video means nothing. I’ve seen Smart with jammed doors from impact at parking lot speed. Get in touch with reality.
July 7th, 2010 at 7:17 am
@twentyflights Not as much as you fixated on SUVs ignoring other cars. What happened to US automakers has lot more to do with Unions and lack of taxes on imports (like everywhere else) then with design of cars itself. Frankly, buck to buck many US cars superior to imports.
July 7th, 2010 at 7:17 am
@zrvpvo8789 you’re so fixated on arguing that you’re ignoring the big picture. the Smart is an entrepreneurial venture to be commended for bucking not the trend–as you pointed out it IS the trend–but rather the general course of auto culture, a culture that has LOTS of room to improve, especially in America; look at what happened to US automakers recently. the Smart, as an initial effort may not be perfect and may not be an answer, but has still done surprising well–some evidence? this video.

I dont like these things…they are not made for american highways and people are buying them who dont live in tight cities ive seen them in rule ohio…they dont do well in snoe because they are so light..they have no power..they just make no sense..and they are ugly..all this sceinctific talk over this..my sceince is they stink and the enviorment isnt any better with these cars in it but would be out of it..

he hit the steering wheel THROUGH the fucking airbag WTF safe enuf my ass i saw another test where it hit another car tha wuz midsiaze and it went flippin thru tha air LMFAOROFL
July 7th, 2010 at 7:17 am
@twentyflights Let me tell you one more thing as engineer – efficiency of vehicle is not just the number of miles you can travel per unit of gasoline.
It is also what you can carry in that car. Gasoline powered Smart imported to US hardly a bit efficient then ANY compact car sold in US. Compact cars nowadays do 35 MPG and carry at least 4. Smart do 41MPG and only carry 2.
July 7th, 2010 at 7:17 am
@twentyflights People take kids to school in the morning and then pick them up after work. How efficient would be to keep another car at home and switch it twice daily? My friend drives Smart since parking is scarce in downtown of 7000 year old Athens. Same guy fuel up his boat on weekend with ton of diesel at Euro per liter… I repeat – there are plenty of cars between SUV and Smart that are highly efficient and roomy. You really need to grow up – education hardly makes you adult…
July 7th, 2010 at 7:17 am
It’s funny that this small of a car is BESTER in crash test then most cars on the road…. ?
July 7th, 2010 at 7:17 am
@zrvpvo8789 reductio ad absurdum. motorcycles are hardly relevant for many reasons. as an engineer, practicality rules, and my support for the Smart comes from the fact that it opposes the waste and inefficiency of vehicles, like the majority of SUVs most of the time, doing far less than their designs specify. if you consider minor support of efforts that deal with global problems “lunacy,” then sure, i’m a lunatic. whatever Smart’s motives, any effort is more valuable than a stinging critique.

July 7th, 2010 at 7:17 am
Its realy good, this crashtest show us how the safety cage and the airbags save our lifes, I LOVE IT AND I LOVE CRASHTEST(AIRBAGS)
July 7th, 2010 at 7:17 am
@JBofBrisbane but then who will u call to help you move?
July 7th, 2010 at 7:17 am
@twentyflights It shouldn’t. It hardly adds to any practical value either. I don’t see how numerous models of average sedans (like Accord) – ‘overqualified’ for practicality. No offense, you live in lunacy. You don’t really need even second seat to drive to and from work – why don’t we all switch to motorcycles?
I don’t see Smart being expensive. I also don’t see driving any tin can if I can afford something better. So do thousands of other people.
