Yep! Owned our own Aircraft and Facilities! Paid Cash! Insulated from everything but greedy Executives and their leveraged buyouts! Makes me sick! And then all the Bankruptcy Court did is give them a fresh start at another Compay to ruin

I miss the red tail, and how the pilots would give out little plastic wings. this is the airline i grew up with, as i live in its hub in minneapolis st paul. Now i hate delta. don’t buy tickets from delta. Use AirTran or American, but not delta!!!!

I grew up in NYC hearing the call of the Gong in their radio ads…and never planning on it, I wound up working for them as a young man, leaving after 19+ years. Breaks my heart to think that through fancy financing, they were “bought” with their own money, and the Red Tail flies no more.

They shouldve at least kept the tails… that would’ve been great.

They were a good airline.

Northwest airlines was the main reason I wanted to be a pilot. I always had a smile going through any airport and seeing the distinctive red tail among any aircraft. Northwest will always be my favorite, no matter what. Northwest will always be missed. I -3 NWA

I believe this video is from one of the northwest managers meetings I attended, a couple weeks before merger announcement. Will always miss NWA, Delta is absolutely horrible to it’s employees and passengers.

I have some great memories of Northwest, including one of the first commercial flights I can remember (just after I turned 5), my first (and only) 747 trip, two of five trips to Europe, our first (of what would become 11) trips to Puerto Rico, the first trip to Florida after our family bought a new vacation home there…all on the red tail.
Thanks Northwest.

One of the greatest airline vids around! Thanks so much for posting it!
NWA took me around the world some 11 times before it merged. Still miss the red tail every time I fly across the Atlantic and onwards. Somehow, Delta is not the same…

Sad indeed. My father retired from Northwest in 1987. His last flight was Narita Tokyo to JFK.
He went from flying Corsairs over Japan in ’45 to flying 747s.

Fargo was contracted out by NWA long ago. All that’s changed is who has the contract…

Who is the man in the old, vintage closeup, he has a weathered face – I saw it on the handful of photos on the NW History Center website, also…?

Fargo North Dakota is not the same its sad to see the red tails gone and a great gruop of employees who have been replaced by contractors who care nothing for there job.
