Singapore Airlines Airbus A380 First Class Suites
The Singapore Airlines A380 has 471 seats in three classes: the New Economy Class, the New Business Class and the New Singapore Airlines Suites, a class beyond first exclusively available on this aircraft. The Airbus A380 is designed to carry up to 800 passengers, but Singapore Airlines has configured seats for a comfortable 471 passengers on board the world’s largest commercial airplane. While the first class offers cabin suites… and double beds if you combine two together, it’s rather claustrophobic, as each compartment resembles a cable car compartment, equipped with an ottoman. It offers privacy… and if you’re ready to pay for it, it’s worth the money. Especially since the Business Class consists of 60 seats! Way more seats than the usual 747 or 777. Making Business Class cabins a little bit noisier, busier and less private than you’d expect. Sorry, the is no grand staircase, no bar, no gym, no shower, no Starbucks inside the A380 like the promo videos and early artist impressions of the interior. It may be arresting to look at from the outside, but it’s business as usual in the inside….

I like this idea of a first class suite but to me they look like little prison cells on a very posh level to me I would not mind to be seated in this first class for a while but personally think I would feel caged after a few hours of I know there is a lounge on board with a bare etc but personally I would be scared as h*ll if I sat on ones of thoese stools then we went into rough turbulance and possibly fall off you know also I wld rather have a open space than have it totally private like this

i don’t like so much Singapore airlines because they aren’t spezialiced in 747 … and 747 is my favourite airilne… for me ,the airline that not specialized in the 747 or the airline that don’t like the 747 isn’t very good! (i love cathay pacific)!!

The privacy I speak of refers to (Singapore Airlines A380):
- smaller “Business” cabin segments. 20 seats each or so. Rhetorically, just compare the noise from 20 passengers talking at the same time, versus 42. If the A380 has space, why not use it for comfort and privacy? Afterall, cost of the ticket is – Business Class premium fare + 15+% over regular non A380 flights?

So. Until you fly in one. The sense of awe and expectations is definitely heightened.
The Business Class is a nice place to be in, don’t get me wrong. But I am still waiting for 787 Dreamliner kind of comfort – air humidity that’s closer to the ground, comfortable levels of cabin pressure and significantly reduced noise.
Those will mean more to frequent travelers than merely packing more ppl into a plane.

The benefits for flying A380 lies in cost savings for the airlines. If you sat in one, the benefit for a economy passenger is roughly about the same in the Premium Economy offerings of SQ, Eva Air or etc. The Business Class in SQ feels exactly like the 777. EXACTLY. So what am I supposed to be impressed about as a passenger? Because I sure as hell can only stare at it from the outside for a few minutes… I’ll get bored.

You are misunderstanding my notion of privacy and exclusivity. I am not asking for a hotel room in the sky. I am merely justifying why I think the A380 is less revolutionary to the passenger than it looks. It doesn’t raise the bar of passenger comfort by a big margin
October 27th, 2011 at 9:44 pm
If everyone thought like that then there wouldn’t be any revolutionary products for commercial aviation forever.
The 747 was thought to be impossible before the 60′s… The Airbus A380 idea would have been a stuff of fiction if your read about it in the 80′s.

if any airline dares to offer your idea of privacy they they would all be in the “red”

At this current SQ 380 config,,, I fail to understand the reason to pay more to travel A380 Business Class if you’re going to be stuck in a cabin with 42 passengers…
My tip is to fly in row 11-15, if ever on A380 Business Class, like I did. If not, forget it. Unless you’re not concerned about the finer things in travel like snoring, meal time noise, children crying, privacy and etc.
October 27th, 2011 at 9:44 pm
As for the First Class, I guess if you don’t travel with kids or an entourage of friends… & don’t mind being alone in your little cabin for 10 hours of more, it’s just the thing you need.

50% increase in floor space is only representative of the overall space. Consider the space taken up by two relatively large staircases, the extra standing space, pitch, bigger toilets and allowance in the aisles/emergency exits – therefore it is not fair to say that 50% space vs 20% effective numbers of seat increase translates into THAT ratio of improvement on noise levels or passenger privacy.
October 27th, 2011 at 9:44 pm
However, I don’t see what’s so revolutionary about having less privacy, more cabin noise (glasses clinging, stewardesses serving, children, passenger chatter & etc) while PAYING MORE for it. If there was indeed 50% more space, then the Business Class should have been classified in three compartments, each carrying 20 passengers.
October 27th, 2011 at 9:44 pm
There are 18 seats from row 11-15. The rest of the 42 seats are compartmentalised into another compartment starting from row 17-27. Trust me, I’ve been there and to have 42 seats in one Business Class cabin is something that is alarming for me.
Business Class in 747s are already somewhat less-exclusive and private, and the A380 is supposed to revolutionize the way people fly.

Of course it is one of the best products on any major airline. But…
The 747 has up to 50 business class seats, separated into two floors (as far as the airlines I have traveled are concerned) and the upper deck carries half the number of business class seats. You may not have seen the config, but do refer to the Singapore Airlines A380 Business Class seats arrangement.
October 27th, 2011 at 9:44 pm
Reports have lauded the suites and have not called them claustophobic. Also, no reason to be shocked at 60 business class seats. The 747 has 50 business seats. The A380 provides nearly 50% more floor space. Its only a 20% increase in seats so i don’t think it’ll be any noisier or anything. No one should have expected all those crazy items aboard the A380 but for the industry these are really great.

The suites are not first class they are sold and branded as a whole new class. class designation is “R” Its such an innovative product tho as doubled beds in the aisle can be made and it uses a standalone bed! These really are the best products of any major airline.
