Low cost air carriers flying high in Asia

Discount Airline
The global economic crisis has had at least one winner: discount airlines. Many passengers around the world now appear willing to sacrifice luxury for cheaper flights. The Asia-Pacific region, in particular, is where low-cost carriers are proving most popular and the number of people flying is increasing at 6.5 per cent a year. The amount they are willing to pay, however, is falling. Al Jazeera’s Andrew Thomas reports from Sydney, Australia.

@Walhei960
“We want low cost, and safe travel” Do you have any idea what it costs to run an airline? over 50% of the costs in aviation is fuel and that is only going up, lower fares mean lower standards of maintenance and service, that much is clear. Its people like you that choose airlines merely by their price and yet complain when airlines go under and people loose their jobs. Pick an airline for their customer service and quality of aircraft, not by their fair specials.

Alright aljazeera, where is your alarmist man made global warming propaganda on this video?

Air Asia is wiping out jerkoff airlines like Thai International and Singapore Airlines. Imagine, paying $140 to fly Bangkok to Melbourne!!

Airlines in this country are deaf. Americans have been screaming, it the price, its the price. But Airlines pretend all Americans are flush with money and want extras. We want low cost, and safe, travel, that is all Why do you not listen. You can make money if you model that in your plans. .

This has already become a race to the bottom and we will all pay in the long run as shortcuts in safety and quality staff are being taken….Just makes me want to travel less, not more.

@WaxingRadiance It’s their time. It’s not reasonable to ask the Chinese not to do as we’ve been doing for 50 years..
January 14th, 2012 at 7:17 am
@WaxingRadiance It would take weeks to cross the pacific via ship and cost just as much if not more than an airline. Air travel is very important part of many peoples lifestyle and will never be cut back as a result of carbon emissions. The increased use of public transport and alternate sources of power such as solar and nuclear is the answer to reduce carbon emissions.

So, even if global warming/climate change was caused by increased CO2 this growth is perfectly acceptable is it? 6% growth per year will result in millions of tonnes of extra CO2/pollution, which by the general feel of this article is ‘good business’. All the while being made to feel guilty about leaving a light on for an hour.
