Former Tourism Philip J. Pierre says there is no need for an investigation into regional airline LIATs fare structure. On Friday, Civil Aviation Minister - Allen Chastanet told reporters he has ordered a review of the taxes imposed by LIAT on airline tickets saying the airlines fare is misleading and possibly illegal. Chastanet has every right to be upset.
To top it off when I was going to pay my ticket Liat went ahead and added travel insurance for US$25.00 to bring the ticket total to US$205.00.
I told them they could keep their insurance, if they somehow lose my bag between Barbados and St. Lucia the last plane ride I’ll be taking on them is to get my US Visa in Barbados to travel on American Airlines.

By the time I had clicked through the next two pages to purchase my ticket the price had ballooned to US$180. Checking the details, the bastards had a slew of taxes: Airport facility tax and all sorts of exotic taxes only a corporation could dream up. I never heard of anything where taxes total more than the price of the commodity you’re buying. I was basically paying 414.28% taxes on a plane ticket.

You know, Liat had a promotion on their website, up until June 15th where they were offering US$50 tickets from Barbados to St. Lucia. I deferred buying the ticket until the 15th and lo and behold there was a cheaper seat going for US$35. Imagine my luck!
