Air China “talks” to JFK Ground
Dec.31, 2009 in
Airline Ticket Fares
This is an example of potential miscommunications which occur on international flights. This is an Air China aircraft communicating with JFK Ground. As you can tell, the potential for disaster is there.

dammmmmm thats kinda scary

English is the uniform language and it scares me when there are people in control of huge aircraft that do not have a basic grasp. If he was on an approach or something and something happened, then what? It was a good job he was on the ground although even then he nearly taxied onto the ramp without clearance to do so!

These pilots licenses must be revoked !!!
It’s not about racism. Even pilots who don’t really speak good English can develop communication skills because aviation terminologies and terms have very specific meanings associated.

The controller is breaking from the standard script and really should stick to the basics with these guys… Obviously, they were from out of town!

JFK International is a Crazy Busy Airport. also, English is the international standard for ATC and Pilots, i would be hacked off at this guy if i was the ATC having to deal with him.
December 31st, 2009 at 5:05 am
Nah, I don’t thing his english is too bad…problem is that pilot didnt prepared himself for kennedy procedures
December 31st, 2009 at 5:05 am
This is why I nearly shit myself every time I’m in the same practice area with a guy who can’t speak english!

I could’t have agreed with je14100 more.
There is no excuse for a pilot of an International Flight not even understand a simple question from the tower. They should go through more in-depth English language training. I am a Chinese and a private pilot. Hope people from Air China or other China airlines can reflect on this.

All these ATC need to understand that they need to be a little more understanding and not so English-centric. Such demanding attitudes are what have made the USA into such a bully across the world!
(sike!)

INTERROGATIVE!
December 31st, 2009 at 5:05 am
You know-the required spoken language for pilots AND ATC is English around the globe. International pilots (like this one) NEED to get more English training b/c it is the required language to speak and communication is very important!

Guys..this scares me. I am a ready for my flight lesson. Few days back I called customer service and I was saying “yes” to process to the next part. After second attempt I was able to get to it, but then it asked me “From what state you are calling from?” I answered, “New York.” Guess what…4 to 5 times it did not take my words..then I gave it to my friend who has Indian accent and he said “new york”…and computer took it . I was so freaking pissed, beyond definition.
